El-Rufai Responds to Reno Omokri, Labels Him a ‘Political Mercenary’
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has fired back at Reno Omokri, a former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of being a “political mercenary” who aligns with the highest bidder.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), El-Rufai described Omokri’s shifting political loyalties as part of an “interesting lifecycle,” highlighting his recent pivot from supporting opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 presidential elections to backing President Bola Tinubu after the polls.
To emphasize his point, El-Rufai shared photos of Omokri participating in a protest in London, where he had labeled Tinubu a “drug baron.” The former governor remarked, “The interesting lifecycle of Wendell Simlin, also sometimes retained as a political mercenary by any person or government that can pay.”
This exchange is the latest in a series of public spats between El-Rufai and Omokri, underscoring tensions stemming from their differing political allegiances.
