2027 Elections: Shehu Sani Urges Northern Candidates to Step Aside for Peter Obi
Former senator and human rights activist, Shehu Sani, has called on key Northern presidential hopefuls, including Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Nasir El-Rufai, to sacrifice their ambitions in favor of a Southern candidate—specifically, Peter Obi—in the 2027 elections.
Speaking in an interview with TVC News, Sani warned that if multiple Northern candidates contest, they risk splitting votes, ultimately benefiting the ruling party. He emphasized that strategic political decisions are necessary to strengthen the opposition’s chances of victory.
“I feel that it’s better for a Northern presidential candidate, even those in the coalition, to sacrifice their ambition for someone from the South to contest. If they don’t, they will end up in a similar situation as before, where a Northern candidate faces a Southern incumbent who already has the advantage,” Sani stated.
His remarks highlight the importance of unity within the opposition, urging political leaders to prioritize national interest over personal aspirations to avoid past electoral miscalculations.
