Keyamo Responds to Trump’s Remarks on Nigeria, Defends Country’s Image

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has reacted to recent comments by former United States President Donald Trump, who accused the Nigerian government of enabling the persecution of Christians.

In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, Keyamo said his response was informed by his legal background and sense of national responsibility.

“As a legal practitioner with over three decades of experience, I feel compelled to lend my voice to this ongoing debate,” he wrote.

Trump’s statement, which alleged systematic attacks on Christians in Nigeria, has drawn widespread criticism from both local and international observers.

Keyamo dismissed the claims as false and damaging to Nigeria’s reputation, asserting that the country does not support or condone religious persecution.

“As an ardent Christian myself, I cannot associate with any government that condones or supports mass killings. The assertions about Christian annihilation in Nigeria are false, exaggerated, and should be completely disregarded,” he stated.

The minister further referenced his career as a lawyer and human rights advocate, noting that his professional experience gave him the perspective to assess such allegations objectively.

“Having practiced law for more than thirty years and received recognition in the United States, I believe it is important to correct misconceptions about Nigeria,” he added.

Keyamo’s remarks have generated mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians praising his defense of the country while others criticized his position on the issue.
