Impersonator of LASTMA Official Arrested, Claims Daily Earnings of N15,000 to N25,000 from Extortion
A man named Adewunmi Taiwo, 45, was arrested for impersonating an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to extort money from drivers. LASTMA shared this news on their X account, stating he was apprehended on Oshodi Bridge after targeting both commercial and private motorists.
Reports indicate that Taiwo conducted his illicit operations using a white bus, where he would intimidate drivers. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities found a LASTMA uniform and a branded raincoat in his possession.
According to LASTMA’s post, Taiwo, who claims to be from Ilesha in Osun State and is married with three children, admitted during questioning that he used the uniform to deceive drivers on busy routes like Ikorodu Road and the Oshodi to Mile 2 expressway. He revealed that he earned between N15,000 and N25,000 each day from these extortion activities.
Taiwo provided additional information regarding his operations and is expected to be turned over to the police for prosecution. Many Lagos residents have voiced concerns about individuals impersonating traffic officials and extorting money by falsely accusing them of breaking non-existent traffic laws.
