Gov Fubara Clears The Air On Alleged Defection To Apc

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has debunked circulating reports claiming he is planning to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The rumors, which have been gaining traction online, suggested that Fubara, alongside Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, was gearing up for a joint defection to the APC in preparation for the 2027 elections.

Speculation intensified after Governor Oborevwori officially joined the APC on Wednesday, accompanied by his deputy, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other major PDP leaders from Delta State.

However, speaking to DAILY POST on April 24, 2025, Governor Fubara’s Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Jerry Omatsogunwa, firmly refuted the claims. He affirmed that Governor Fubara remains loyal to the PDP and that there has been no discussion, publicly or privately, about leaving the party.

Omatsogunwa added that it was unclear if Fubara was even aware of the circulating defection stories, saying, “There has been no conversation about him leaving the PDP.” He also emphasized the governor’s active role in the party, noting that “Governor Fubara is the Deputy Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.”
