Cubana Chiefpriest Kneels Before VP Shettima, Sparks Cultural Debate Online

A viral photo of popular nightlife mogul, Cubana Chiefpriest, kneeling on both knees to greet Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has ignited a storm of reactions across social media platforms. The image, which was initially shared by YabaLeftOnline on X (formerly Twitter), captures Chiefpriest dressed in a white traditional outfit, showing deep respect while Vice President Shettima remains seated and focused on his phone.

The gesture has sparked a wide range of opinions online. Many users questioned the appropriateness of the act, especially from the perspective of Igbo cultural norms. Critics argued that traditional Igbo customs do not support men kneeling—particularly with both knees—to greet anyone, regardless of their status.
On the other hand, several users defended Chiefpriest, saying the action should be seen as a display of humility and courtesy toward a high-ranking political figure. “Respect is universal,” one commenter noted, suggesting that acts of deference shouldn’t always be seen through an ethnic lens.
Others added that in a country as diverse as Nigeria, where cultures frequently intersect, it’s natural for people to adopt gestures that reflect broader societal respect, especially in formal or official settings.
With thousands of likes, shares, and comments, the photo has become a trending topic, opening up conversations about the balance between cultural identity and national unity in how respect is shown to leaders.
