“Why Are Umahi and Wike Still in Their Positions Despite Poor Performance and Negative Impact?” – Solomon Dalung
Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, questioning the decision to keep certain ministers despite their questionable performance. In an insightful interview with News Central TV, Dalung expressed skepticism about the inclusion of several prominent ministers in the cabinet, pointing out issues such as lack of effectiveness and concerns about national unity.
Dalung declared, “The minister of power should not still be in that position. The defense ministers have no reason to remain. He specifically criticized the Finance Minister, arguing that “the management of the Nigerian economy has been poor, so the Finance Minister should not be retained simply due to their closeness to the president.
His criticism extended to other significant roles as well. He remarked that the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has primarily focused on awarding contracts without tangible results. Additionally, he described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike, as detrimental to national unity.
Highlighting the importance of national cohesion, Dalung stressed that “a cabinet should work to unite Nigerians.” He raised a critical question regarding these appointments, asking, “Why are these individuals still in their positions if it’s not for political favors?.
These remarks come amid growing public scrutiny regarding government effectiveness and performance. Dalung’s critique sheds light on worries about the criteria for ministerial appointments and whether political loyalty is taking precedence over merit and competence in crucial government roles.
His comments contribute to the ongoing discussion about governance quality and the influence of political appointments on Nigeria’s development and unity in the current political climate.
