“I Was Hurt by the Remarks About ‘So-Called Legal Luminaries’ Without Naming Anyone” – OCJ Okocha
OCJ Okocha, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, voiced his dissatisfaction with a statement made by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who mentioned that God would judge certain “so-called legal luminaries.”
Okocha, a seasoned legal professional with 46 years of experience, felt insulted by the governor’s comment, especially since it did not specify any names. He took the opportunity to outline his distinguished career, which includes serving as Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in Rivers State, as well as holding positions such as Chairman of the Council of Legal Education and Chairman of the Body of Benchers.
He underscored his significant contributions to the legal field and his leadership roles throughout his career. In a live interview with TVC, he stated, “In just a couple of days, significant changes can occur in this field. I am a genuine legal luminary with 46 years at the bar, having been elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 1995.
I served as President of the Nigerian Bar Association in 2000, following my tenure as Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice for Rivers State from 1990 to 1992. Additionally, I have been involved with the Federal Judicial Service Commission and the National Judicial Council, and I have chaired both the Council of Legal Education and the Body of Benchers.
“Okocha added, “I was hurt when someone referred to ‘so-called legal luminaries’ without naming anyone. Shortly after, my colleague, Chief Frank, sent me clips of people coming to the defense of the individual they labeled as a ‘so-called legal luminary.'”
