Man Severely Burned While Trying to Steal Transformer Cables in Niger State

A 22-year-old man, Tasiu Danlami, suffered severe burns while attempting to steal transformer cables from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in Tafa Local Government Area, Niger State.
According to a statement from SP Wasiu Abiodun, the police spokesperson, the incident occurred on October 10, 2024, around 5:45 AM. Police officers, along with local vigilantes, were patrolling the Hayin-Nasarawa area along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway when they apprehended Tasiu and another suspect, 18-year-old Abba Salisu, both from the same community.
The two suspects were caught trying to vandalize the transformer cables, which resulted in Tasiu sustaining severe burns. He was immediately taken to Musa Yar’Adua Hospital in Sabon-Wuse for medical treatment, while Abba Salisu was detained with an industrial cutting plier found in their possession.
The police have stated that further investigations are ongoing at the Tafa Division.
