Jude Abaga, professionally known as M.I Abaga, is a Nigerian rapper, songwriter, and music executive born on October 4, 1981, in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. Widely regarded as one of Africaβs greatest rappers, M.I is celebrated for his lyrical depth, storytelling ability, and influence on the Nigerian hip-hop movement.
He studied Business and Economics at Calvin College in the United States, where he developed his rap skills and musical identity. Upon returning to Nigeria, M.I rose to prominence after winning the Airtel One Mic rap competition, which paved the way for his breakthrough.
M.I released his debut album Talk About It in 2008, a landmark project that redefined Nigerian rap and produced classics like Crowd Mentality, Anoti, and Safe. He followed up with successful albums including MI 2: The Movie, The Chairman, Rendezvous, and the Judah EP, consistently showcasing versatility and growth.
Beyond his solo career, M.I has played a major role in shaping modern Nigerian music through mentorship and executive leadership. As a former chairman of Chocolate City, he helped launch and nurture talents such as Ice Prince, Jesse Jagz, and Brymo. His work bridges hip-hop, Afrobeats, and conscious rap.
