Lawal Olalekan Olumo aka Konga
Lawal Olalekan Olumo, professionally known as Konga, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and performer born in Lagos State, Nigeria. He became one of the notable voices in Nigeria’s mid-2000s music era, known for his street-inspired lyrics and distinctive vocal delivery.
Konga rose to fame in 2008 with his breakout hit Baby Konga, a catchy track that became a street anthem across Nigeria. The song’s infectious rhythm and relatable lyrics quickly made him a household name within the Nigerian pop scene.
He followed up with other popular tracks such as Kabakaba, Fall in Love, and Sibling Rivalry (a collaboration with 9ice). His music style blends Afrobeats, street-hop, and indigenous influences, reflecting everyday life and hustle culture in Nigeria.
Although not as consistently active in later years compared to his early peak, Konga remains remembered as one of the defining artists of Nigeria’s late-2000s street-pop movement. His impact during that era contributed to shaping the direction of contemporary Nigerian pop and street music.
