Barcelona Target La Masia Graduate Grimaldo in Summer Transfer Push

Barcelona is reportedly exploring the possibility of re-signing Alejandro Grimaldo, a product of their renowned La Masia academy, with sporting director Deco said to be leading the effort. According to Sky Sports Germany, the Catalan club is seriously considering bringing the 29-year-old left-back back to Camp Nou.
Grimaldo, who currently stars for Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen under coach Xabi Alonso, has seen his stock rise significantly thanks to his attacking flair and consistent performances. Leverkusen is reportedly open to letting him go, but only for a fee in the region of €30 million to €40 million.
While Grimaldo is under contract with the German side until 2027, there appears to be a mutual understanding that he can depart if the right offer comes in. Behind-the-scenes talks between Barcelona and the player’s camp are said to be underway.
The Spanish international has already made it known that a return to Spain—and to Barcelona in particular—is something he actively desires. In a recent interview, Grimaldo shared: “It’s a goal I have. I’m very clear about it. Leverkusen knows it too. I want to return to Spain soon because it’s my country, and I want to enjoy playing there.”
He added, “I grew up at La Masia. It’s the club that shaped me as a player and as a person. It’s the team I’ve wanted to play for since I was a child.”
At present, Alejandro Balde holds the starting left-back role at Barcelona, but the addition of an experienced figure like Grimaldo could mean reduced opportunities for backup Gerard Martin, who has impressed in Balde’s absence this season. Nonetheless, the club appears eager to add both depth and experience to its defensive ranks by pursuing Grimaldo’s return.
