Tension as Akpabio, Oshiomhole Trade Words with Tambuwal During Senate Debate

Tensions flared in the Senate on Tuesday during deliberations on a proposed amendment to an existing law, as Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former APC National Chairman, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, exchanged words with former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
During the session, a senator raised procedural concerns about the amendment process, emphasizing the need to review the principal law before making changes.
“In a law, we should see the principal law. You must see what is in that law that you think will convince us that this amendment will improve the efficacy of the law,” the lawmaker said.
He added, “To amend what we have not seen at all is like driving a vehicle without a dashboard. If we are amending a law, where is the law that we are amending?”
As the debate continued, Senator Oshiomhole made a political remark directed at Tambuwal, stating that the former governor was “not important until he joins the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
Responding humorously, Senate President Akpabio said, “Senator Tambuwal cannot be an issue in this Senate. Whether he’s attending ADC, PDP, or APGA meetings is not important. The only thing that would be important is if he becomes a member of the APC.”
The comment drew laughter from the chamber, while Tambuwal remained composed and did not respond.
The exchange highlighted ongoing political rivalries between members of the ruling APC and the opposition PDP, even as the Senate sought to address legislative matters.
