Nigerians Criticize Tinubu for Unbalanced Appointments of Security Leaders

The distribution of leadership positions within Nigeria’s security agencies under President Bola Tinubu has drawn significant criticism, particularly due to the minimal representation from the South-East and South-South regions. On Saturday, the presidency released a list of 22 appointments through Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser on Public Communications and Orientation, via his verified account on X (formerly Twitter).
The list highlights a marked regional disparity: the North-West dominates with eight appointments, followed by the South-West with five. The North-Central and North-East regions have four and three positions, respectively, while both the South-East and South-South are each represented by just one appointment.
This inequity has led to a strong backlash from Nigerians on social media, with many expressing concerns about the fairness and inclusivity of the selection process.Numerous individuals voiced their dissatisfaction on X, accusing the government of overlooking the needs and contributions of the South-East and South-South regions.
