Fubara: ‘All I Can Do Is Wait for Him… He Supported Us During Tough Times.’
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has openly acknowledged the vital support provided by former President Goodluck Jonathan during the recent political crisis with his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike. In a candid statement during a live coverage by Symfoni, Governor Fubara revealed that he typically avoids such occasions but felt compelled to attend out of deep respect for Jonathan’s significant contributions during challenging times.
Fubara recounted receiving a letter informing him of Jonathan’s planned attendance at the event, which prompted him to cancel other commitments to ensure he could be present to personally welcome and honor the former president. The governor’s actions underscore the immense gratitude and appreciation he holds for Jonathan’s unwavering support during the difficult period.
“I have to tell you the truth. I like avoiding this type of occasion, but I have no option. When I was told, and I got a letter that our daddy [Goodluck Jonathan] would be coming here, I had to cancel all other programs that I had, to be here to receive him and to honor him, because I know what role he has played amidst this crisis,” Fubara stated, emphasizing the profound impact of Jonathan’s support.
While the governor refrained from disclosing all the details of Jonathan’s involvement, he made it clear that the former president stood by him and his administration during their most difficult moments. Fubara’s decision to prioritize welcoming Jonathan and sharing in the honor of his presence speaks volumes about the depth of their relationship and the governor’s profound appreciation for the former president’s unwavering support.
“It is not everything that I will tell you but he stood with us in our difficult period. So, the little I can do is to come to wait for him, and to receive him, and to share in this honor. So, Daddy, I welcome you, and I thank you for being here,” Fubara said.
