Shehu Sani Criticizes Degree Holders for Concealing Higher Qualifications to Apply for Graduate-Level Jobs

In a recent tweet, Shehu Sani, a Nigerian senator, author, playwright, and human rights activist, sparked a discussion about academic qualifications and job hunting, particularly the practice of concealing advanced degrees to secure positions intended for lower academic levels.
Posting on his official X handle (formerly Twitter), the President of the Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria expressed his concern over individuals with higher degrees, such as master’s or PhDs, who hide their qualifications to compete for jobs meant for those with bachelor’s degrees.
He tweeted, “Some people hide their Master’s and PhD to grab jobs meant for graduates. Haba, can’t you show class and seniority?”
The tweet generated varied responses from users. One replied, “Certificates aren’t important now. What matters is survival.” Another added, “To get the job, you have to hide some qualifications. Otherwise, you’ll get nothing.”
