Dangote Group Mourns Phyna’s Sister, Confirms Support Before Her Death
The Dangote Group has expressed sadness over the death of Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, who died on Sunday after injuries sustained in an accident involving one of the company’s trucks in Auchi, Edo State.
In a statement released on its official X account and signed by the company’s management, Dangote Group described Ruth’s passing as “deeply saddening” and extended condolences to the Otabor family.
Ruth, a recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, was critically injured on August 13 when a Dangote truck crushed her leg. She later underwent an amputation but remained in fragile condition until her death.
According to the company, its representatives and insurance partners had been supporting Ruth and her family since the incident, covering medical expenses and preparing for her transfer to India for advanced treatment.
“Since the accident, our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, covering all financial and medical costs and supporting her family,” the statement said. “Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today.”
Dangote Group reaffirmed its commitment to safety and accountability, adding: “At Dangote Group, safety, accountability, and compassion remain at the core of our operations. We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest.”
