Ganiu Nafiu: “There Was a Time in My Life When I Usually Slept on a Chair Because of My Sickness”

Veteran Nollywood actor Ganiu Nafiu, popularly known as Alapini Osa, has shared a heartbreaking account of one of the most difficult periods in his life. In a deeply moving interview, the actor opened up about his battle with a life-threatening illness and the painful loss of two of his children during the same period.
Speaking on the Behind The Fame TV YouTube channel, Nafiu revealed that his health once deteriorated so badly that he couldn’t walk for an entire year. During that time, even lying in bed became too painful, forcing him to sleep on a chair every night.
“There was a time in my life when I usually slept on a chair because of my sickness, which lasted for a year. I was sick, I couldn’t stand up for a year,” he said.
Amidst his struggle for recovery, tragedy struck twice. Nafiu lost two of his sons—one just four years old and the other 37. The back-to-back losses, coupled with his failing health, left him in an unimaginable state of grief and despair.
Despite the sorrow, the seasoned actor said he has come to accept his fate, choosing to trust in a higher purpose.
“I usually believe that whatever happens to me is the will of God,” he said with quiet strength.
His story is a powerful reminder of human resilience and the ability to find faith and endurance in the face of overwhelming pain.
