MKO Promises to Unseat Adeleke in 2026 for APC
Alhaji Moshood Kamal Okunola, the ADP House of Representatives candidate for the Iwo Federal Constituency in the 2023 elections, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) today, bringing over 10,000 supporters with him.
The defection announcement took place at Osogbo Junction in Iwo, attended by notable APC leaders including the state chairman, Hon. Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, party secretary Hon. Kamoru Olabisi, state executive members, Osun West leaders, and Iwo local government chairman Engr. Olaniyi Olasunkanmi.
Okunola characterized his switch as a significant blow to the PDP, indicating that it marks the party’s decline not only in Iwo but also throughout Osun State. He urged the ruling party to refrain from wasting state resources on their 2026 re-election efforts, claiming they have squandered a crucial chance to improve their standing. He criticized the Osun government for its slow response in addressing the rehabilitation of the Iwo-Osogbo road, accusing the governor of deliberately neglecting it. Okunola pointed out the numerous flyover projects in Osogbo and significant road work in Ede, the governor’s hometown, questioning the fairness of these developments at the expense of other areas.
He called on the residents of Osun, particularly voters, to express their discontent through the ballot box and remove the PDP from power at Abere.“Today marks a pivotal moment in Osun State’s political landscape. We are beginning a journey to end ineffective governance here, aiming to restore the state’s progressive values,” he declared.“Although many parties approached me, I choose to align with the progressive movement as a technocrat.
The values of this family resonate with me, and by 2026, we will unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke and take back the Osun State Government House at Abere.”He accused the ruling PDP of betraying the trust placed in them by the people of Iwo, stating that the party has prioritized its interests over the community’s needs. He criticized the focus on flyover projects in Osogbo as misaligned priorities, arguing that the funds for just one of those projects could have significantly improved the Iwo-Osogbo road.
He highlighted the ongoing roadworks in Ede, suggesting that Iwo has been unfairly overlooked.Okunola also expressed concern about the state government hindering local government autonomy, describing this as a violation of Nigeria’s constitution.
