Inetimi Alfred Odon, professionally known as Timaya, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and performer born on August 15, 1980, in Odi, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. He is one of the pioneers of modern dancehall and Afro-dancehall music in Nigeria, known for his raw storytelling and street-influenced sound.
Timaya rose to fame in 2006 with his breakout hit Dem Mama, a socially conscious song that highlighted the struggles and injustices in the Niger Delta region. The track earned him national attention and established him as a bold new voice in Nigerian music.
He released his debut album True Story in 2007, followed by successful projects such as Gift and Grace, De Rebirth, Upgrade, Epiphany, and Gratitude. Over the years, Timaya has delivered numerous hit singles including Plantain Boy, Bum Bum, Cold Outside, Balance, and I Canβt Kill Myself.
Often referred to as the βEgberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa,β Timaya is admired for his consistency, distinctive voice, and ability to evolve with changing music trends. He has also played a key mentorship role in the industry, helping launch the careers of artists like Patoranking.
