Real Madrid Handed Major Injury Boost as Courtois and Ceballos Return Ahead of Arsenal Showdown

Real Madrid have been handed a timely boost ahead of their crucial UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash against Arsenal, with both Thibaut Courtois and Dani Ceballos returning to partial training on Sunday at Valdebebas, according to Mundo Deportivo. The pair participated in segments of the group session as manager Carlo Ancelotti closely monitors their fitness ahead of Tuesday’s game in London....CONTINUE READING>>>
The development offers a glimmer of hope after a turbulent La Liga campaign, which most recently saw Madrid fall 2-1 to Valencia—tightening the title race as Barcelona closed the gap to just four points. With the focus now firmly on Europe, Ancelotti faces key decisions, especially regarding who starts in goal.
Current first-choice keeper Andriy Lunin sat out training due to a muscle problem in his soleus, raising uncertainty over his availability. Courtois, who has been sidelined for Madrid’s last three matches with a muscular injury, made a return to team training, a positive sign ahead of the Arsenal tie. However, his involvement will depend on how he responds over the next 48 hours.
Ceballos also resumed training activities, taking part in fitness drills and ball work. While his return for the Arsenal match is not guaranteed, there’s optimism he could be ready in time, or at the very least, feature in Madrid’s next La Liga fixture against Alaves.
Those who played significant minutes against Valencia were limited to light recovery work, while players like Raul Asencio, Jesus Vallejo, Arda Guler, and Rodrygo went through more intense training. Left-back Ferland Mendy remains unavailable and has been officially ruled out of the upcoming European clash.
Madrid still face defensive challenges, with Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao sidelined long-term due to knee injuries. Aurelien Tchouameni is also out, serving a suspension. Despite some minor fitness concerns following the Valencia game, Federico Valverde and Antonio Rudiger are both expected to be fit and available for selection.
With key players inching closer to full fitness and the stakes rising in the Champions League, all eyes are on Ancelotti’s final squad decisions as Madrid prepare for a tough trip to the Emirates.
