“Ivory Coast Midfielder Passes Away at 19 Years Old”

The Norwegian and Ivorian football communities mourn the sudden passing of Archange Defrignan Mondou, 19, a player for Eliteserien club HamKam who joined from the Ivory Coast last year.

The death of the teenager was confirmed on his club’s official website on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. According to reports, emergency services found him unresponsive at his flat in Hamar, 60 miles north of the capital city of Oslo.

The club statement read;

“It is with great sadness that HamKam Football has received the news that Achilles has passed away at the age of 19. He was found in his apartment. Our warmest thoughts are with his family and relatives. The cause of death is currently unknown.”

There are reports that Mondou had been forced to take a break from football in September 2023 after an incident in training. The midfielder spent time in hospital following a medical assessment.
