From Football Legend to World Record Hopeful: Okocha Sets Sights on Guinness Book Feat

Nigerian football icon Austine “Jay-Jay” Okocha is preparing to make history once again—this time off the pitch. Renowned for his dazzling dribbling skills and creativity during a career that spanned clubs like Eintracht Frankfurt, Fenerbahçe, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bolton Wanderers, Okocha is now setting his sights on a Guinness World Record.

According to Soccernet, the 51-year-old is leading an ambitious campaign to break the world record for the most people juggling a football simultaneously. Having retired from professional football in 2012, Okocha is calling on fans from around the globe to help him make history.

In a video shared by World Boss, Okocha announced the challenge and encouraged football lovers to submit clips of themselves juggling a football. To meet the record-breaking goal, he needs at least 2,000 participants.

Although he didn’t collect many personal awards during his playing days, Okocha’s legacy remains impactful. “Many consider him to be the most technically gifted African player of all time,” the report notes, with rumors suggesting that Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho even learned a few tricks from Okocha during their time together at PSG.

This world record attempt aligns with a growing trend of Nigerians making their mark globally. Recent record-setters include celebrity chef Hilda Baci, who gained international attention for her cooking marathon, and chess champion Tunde Onakoya, who captivated fans with his remarkable feat.

If successful, Okocha’s name will be etched into the Guinness World Records—not just as a football icon, but as a symbol of creativity and determination. More than just a personal goal, his project highlights how football can unite and inspire.

Okocha’s message is clear: “Greatness isn’t just measured in trophies, but in lasting influence.”
