Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has responded to recent comments by Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, who drew comparisons between the activist and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

During an appearance on Channels Television, Bwala praised VDM’s visit to Yelewata, Benue State, following a deadly attack in June that claimed over 100 lives. He criticized Obi for not visiting the affected community, stating, “VeryDarkMan has more empathy than Peter Obi. He’s not a politician, but he was in Benue. Why does Obi have to wait until he becomes president?”

Bwala defended President Tinubu’s absence from the scene, citing constitutional delegation of responsibilities to the National Security Adviser and military officials.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on July 8, 2025, VDM addressed the remarks, expressing surprise at the comparison. “I don’t know why he needed to compare me to Peter Obi,” he said. “As the Special Adviser to President Tinubu, it’s concerning that you’ve failed to gather accurate information. How exactly are you advising the president?”

VDM clarified that his visit to Benue was motivated by a personal commitment to raise awareness about the victims, not for political purposes.
