Primate Ayodele Warns Tinubu of Potential Northern Political Fallout Over Food Crisis

Lagos — Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has issued a warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, cautioning that ongoing economic hardship, particularly widespread hunger, could erode political support in northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a press briefing at his church in Lagos, Ayodele said the worsening food crisis is straining public tolerance. He stated, “There is still time to make things right, but if hunger persists, the people will turn against the government. Political alliances in the North may weaken before 2027 if the economy doesn’t improve.”

Ayodele clarified that his warning was based on spiritual revelation and not politically motivated. He urged the federal government to implement urgent economic reforms, especially targeting rural areas severely affected by poverty and food insecurity.

Although the presidency has yet to respond to Ayodele’s remarks, officials have acknowledged rising food inflation and attributed the situation to global economic pressures, insecurity in farming regions, and supply chain disruptions. The government has recently introduced agricultural initiatives aimed at stabilizing food prices.
