Nyesom Wike Responds to Jonathan’s Remarks on a Ward Chairman’s Authority Over a National Chairman
Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, has responded to comments made by former President Goodluck Jonathan regarding the authority of a ward chairman to remove a national party chairman.During a live broadcast on Symfoni TV, Wike clarified that the situation Jonathan mentioned did not involve a ward chairman directly removing the national chairman.
Instead, the ward suspended the national chairman from the party. He elaborated that once a person is suspended from their party, they are automatically ineligible to hold the position of national chairman.
Wike emphasized that suspension from the party disqualifies an individual from retaining any leadership roles within that organization.Wike stated, “I heard some leaders discussing this at Mike Ozekhome’s book launch, and it’s unfortunate.
I typically avoid responding to such issues, but some leaders questioned how a ward chairman could remove a national chairman. No ward chairman removed a national chairman; what happened was that the ward suspended the national chairman from the party.
If you are suspended from the party, can you still hold the position of national chairman?”
