Speculation about this development comes from Azeez Adesiji, the chairman of the group, with reports attributing the statement to Abosede Oluwaseun, the group’s organizing and publicity secretary.

In a statement, Adesiji is said to have hinted that “within the next two months, the dominant political force in the state will unveil a major plan ahead of the next election cycle… efforts are already underway to bring key political figures into the fold.”This has sparked greater interest in Aregbesola, the founder of Omoluabi Progressives and the former Minister of Interior, as the group’s plans begin to take shape.

The news follows Aregbesola’s recent suspension from the Osun chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that has further fueled speculation about his political future.After losing control of the APC to his successor, ex-Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Aregbesola founded Omoluabi Progressives in a bid to maintain his political influence.

The struggle for power within the APC between the two men saw Oyetola, with support from figures like Senators Iyiola Omisore and Basiru Ajibola, gradually diminish Aregbesola’s position, eventually leading to the suspension and expulsion of his supporters.Aregbesola launched Omoluabi Progressives on August 22, 2023, using his strong grassroots support to rapidly build the group into a significant political force.

He has been joined in these efforts by former political figures like Moshood Adeoti and Najeem Salami, who have helped expand the group’s reach.Despite his suspension from the APC, Aregbesola has chosen not to publicly address the matter, with insiders suggesting this is a strategic move to avoid unnecessary distractions.
