Governor Uzodimma Mistakenly Mentions Tinubu While Mourning Buhari, Video Sparks Online Reactions
Owerri — A video clip of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma mistakenly referring to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while mourning the late former President Muhammadu Buhari has gone viral, drawing widespread attention on social media.
The incident occurred on the evening of July 20, 2025, during the Constitution Review Zonal Public Hearings held in Owerri, Imo State. The event, which included participants from Imo and Abia States, featured a moment of tribute for Buhari, who died on July 13 in London.
While offering prayers for the late president, Governor Uzodimma said, “Former President Bola…” before briefly pausing and correcting himself to say, “Former President Muhammadu Buhari, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”
The gaffe was captured in a broadcast by ABN TV and quickly spread on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter). Users, including @Big_Sinudo and @Gistcore1, shared the clip, calling it a “slip of tongue.” Others added commentary suggesting the mistake could be interpreted in various ways, though no official explanation has been released by the governor’s media team.
The video continues to circulate widely, generating discussion and humorous reactions online.
