Ex-Osun Works Commissioner Claims Adeleke Was Booed at Iwude Festival

Remi Omowaye, a former Commissioner for Works in Osun State, has alleged that Governor Ademola Adeleke was booed by attendees while delivering a speech at the recent Iwude Festival in Ilesha.
Omowaye made the claim while reacting to statements by the governor that his administration is addressing what he described as the shortcomings of the previous All Progressives Congress (APC) government led by former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. He dismissed Adeleke’s assertion, arguing that the current administration lacks a clear understanding of governance in the state.

According to Omowaye, residents of Ilesha are dissatisfied with the state government’s education policies. He said the Oyetola administration established a university in the town to expand access to tertiary education, but alleged that the current government has increased tuition fees to about ₦1.5 million, making it unaffordable for many families.

He further stated that the previous APC administration identified the need for about 5,000 teachers and recruited 1,500 through what he described as a transparent process involving the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Omowaye claimed that the Adeleke administration later disengaged the teachers without recruiting replacements, leading to staffing shortages in public schools.
The former commissioner also accused the current government of collecting application fees from job seekers without employing them, and raised concerns about the quality of some infrastructure projects, alleging that certain newly constructed roads deteriorated shortly after completion.
The Osun State Government has not responded to Omowaye’s claims as of the time of this report.
