Buhari’s Burial Rescheduled to July 15 Following Family, Government Consultations
Katsina — The burial of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been rescheduled from Monday, July 14, to Tuesday, July 15, following new arrangements made in consultation with his family and government officials.
Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State confirmed the change during a press briefing on Monday. He stated that after discussions with Buhari’s family and close associates in London, it was agreed that the former president’s remains would arrive in Nigeria by 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday and be buried at 2:00 p.m. in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites.
Buhari died on Sunday in London after a prolonged illness. His body is currently being transported to Nigeria for burial.
In response to the former president’s death, the Katsina State Government declared Monday a public holiday. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has also announced a seven-day national mourning period to honor Buhari’s legacy.
Security and protocol officials are already stationed in Katsina ahead of the funeral, which is expected to draw dignitaries from across Nigeria and abroad.
