Six Dead in Fresh Herdsmen Attack in Benue State
At least six people have been killed in Ayilomo, a community in Benue State’s Logo Local Government Area, following renewed violence by suspected armed herdsmen. The attacks began on Friday evening and escalated with a second assault on Saturday. Just days earlier, a similar incident in Anyiin claimed over 15 lives.
Reports indicate the assailants entered from Taraba State and opened fire on residents returning from their farms. Initial violence left three people dead and several injured, prompting residents to flee. Although security forces intervened, the attackers returned on Saturday in larger numbers, resulting in three more deaths and significant destruction, including homes set on fire.
Logo LGA Chairman Clement Ukav confirmed the attacks, emphasizing ongoing efforts to curb the violence. The situation has left many residents displaced, especially vulnerable women and children, while further updates from police authorities remain unavailable. The repeated assaults highlight the persistent insecurity in the region.
