Nyesom Wike: Let the Court Unearth Electoral Fraud
The former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, expressed his lack of regret over his political decisions during his time in office. In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Wike reflected on his political journey and stated that he stands by the choices he made while leading the oil-rich state.
When questioned about allegations of electoral fraud in the presidential election in Rivers State, specifically in favor of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Wike responded that he believes there was no such fraud.
He emphasized that the matter is currently being handled by the tribunal, which should be responsible for investigating and uncovering any electoral misconduct that may have occurred.
An investigative report by Premium Times and BBC revealed discrepancies in the presidential election results in Rivers State. According to the report, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, was shown to have won the election based on the results uploaded on the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV).
This contradicted the declaration made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which stated that Bola Tinubu of the APC emerged as the winner.
Furthermore, the BBC report highlighted the alterations made to the election results in Rivers State to favor President Tinubu. The report revealed that Mr. Tinubu’s vote count had increased by over 106,000 compared to the tally from polling stations, nearly doubling his total in the state. On the other hand, Mr. Obi’s vote count had decreased by over 50,000. The report also mentioned the inability to obtain results from all 6,866 polling units in the state during their search on the INEC portal.
According to Nyesom Wike: “There was no electoral fraud in the presidential election. “The matter is at the tribunal, it should be left to the tribunal to unearth who perpetrated electoral fraud and who did not.”
