NSA Ribadu stirs controversy after calling Aminu Ado Bayero the Emir of Kano [VIDEO]
The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, stirred controversy on Thursday during an international lecture in Abuja by referring to Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as the Emir of Kano.
This statement adds tension to the ongoing royal conflict in Kano between Bayero and former Emir Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi.
The dispute originated in March 2020 when former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje removed Sanusi from the throne and appointed Bayero as the new Emir.
In a surprising turn of events in 2024, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reversed Ganduje’s decision, dismissing Bayero and reinstating Sanusi.
Bayero, who was outside Kano at the time of the announcement, returned to the city and established his court in a mini palace in Nasarawa, ignoring orders for his arrest and raising speculation about federal backing.
During the 1st Annual International Lecture organized by the News Agency of Nigeria, Ribadu’s acknowledgment of Bayero as the Emir received applause from the audience. “Of course, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero,” Ribadu declared, prompting a mix of reactions both in the venue and on social media.
The ongoing power struggle has led to legal actions from both Bayero and Sanusi, who are contesting each other’s claims to the throne. Public opinion on Ribadu’s recognition of Bayero is sharply divided; some praised the move, while others deemed it premature, asserting that only the courts can resolve the dispute.
