Federal Government Gives Governors One Week to Submit Flood Reports
Following reports of flood situations in many parts of the country, the Federal Government has issued a directive to all states that have yet to submit their vulnerability status reports.
The affected states have been instructed to submit their reports within a week.
The directive was delivered to the concerned states during the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday, June 15.
Vice President Kashim Shettimaa chaired the meeting and emphasised the importance of promptly assessing and addressing the vulnerability of these states to cushion the impact of future flood occurrences across the country.
Briefing State House correspondents on some of their deliberations at NEC, the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, said only 15 states had complied with an initial directive to submit their report to a five-person ad hoc committee on flooding constituted by President Buhari’s administration.
He hinted that some of the victims were yet to get compensation due to the stalled report detailing the extent and impact of flooding in their domain.
