Dino Melaye Triumphs in Six-Year Legal Dispute Against Federal Government and Inspector General of Police
Justice Aromeh Benson Akogu, who had been overseeing the case, tragically passed away during a cross-over service on December 31, 2017.By January 31, 2018, the Attorney General’s Office formally charged.
Dino Melaye, arguing that his accusations were unfounded and stemmed from an investigation into an alleged assassination attempt in Ayetoro-Gbede, Kogi State, Melaye’s hometown.Melaye pleaded not guilty to the charges on March 1, 2018.
In July 2018, Melaye again accused the Kogi State police of attempting to assassinate him. This claim came in response to reports that his security team had fired on police officers involved in a ‘stop and search’ operation in Mopa.
By March 2019, Melaye repeated his allegation of a plot against his life, which he attributed to the Kogi State government.
However, the state authorities denied the claims.
