Seyanju: Why I Refused to Kiss a Younger Actor Despite Director’s Anger
Yoruba Nollywood actress Olayemi Seyanju has revealed one of the toughest experiences she’s faced in her acting career, highlighting the importance she places on maintaining her personal boundaries on set.
During an interview with FeelRightNews TV, Seyanju shared the story of a challenging role where she played a sugar mummy in a Nollywood movie. The role demanded an intimate scene with a younger male actor, but when the time came to shoot it in a hotel room, she made it clear to the director that she wasn’t comfortable with kissing.
Her refusal didn’t go down well. “He got angry and said it was just normal acting, but I stood my ground and apologized, saying I couldn’t do it,” Seyanju recalled. Despite the pressure, she held firm on her values, choosing not to compromise her principles for a role.
She went on to reflect on the aftermath, suggesting her decision may have affected her relationship with the director. “I didn’t perform the role well, and I believe that’s why the director hasn’t called me for another job since,” she said.
Still, Seyanju stands by her choice, underscoring the importance of setting personal limits in an industry that often tests them. Her story sheds light on the ongoing conversation about professionalism, consent, and respect for individual boundaries in Nollywood and beyond.
