Rema’s ‘Calm Down Remix’ Hits Milestone with 1 Billion YouTube Views
Rema’s Calm Down Remix, featuring Selena Gomez, has set a historic milestone by becoming the first Afrobeats song to surpass 1 billion views on YouTube. Uploaded on Gomez’s YouTube channel two years ago, the remix is now the first Nigerian song to reach this remarkable achievement and also the fastest African song to hit the milestone within just two years.
The original version of Calm Down has also performed impressively, with over 619 million views on YouTube. Prior to this, in August of the previous year, the remix became the first African song to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify. Additionally, Calm Down made history by being the first African song to accumulate over 1 billion on-demand streams in the United States, as confirmed by Chart Data, an American music statistics company.
Selena Gomez has expressed gratitude for being part of the remix, acknowledging how working with Rema has profoundly impacted her life. The collaboration has further bolstered the global profile of Afrobeats, showcasing its growing influence.
In November 2023, Rema continued to solidify his global presence by performing at a sold-out “Ravage Uprising” show at London’s O2 Arena, joining the ranks of other Nigerian stars such as Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake who have also achieved sold-out performances at the iconic venue.
