Reekado Banks Addresses 2020 Feud with Wizkid

Nigerian singer Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon, known professionally as Reekado Banks, has spoken publicly about his past conflict with fellow artist Wizkid, shedding new light on the 2020 incident that sparked widespread attention in the Nigerian music industry.

Speaking during a recent podcast interview, Reekado recalled the controversy surrounding the release of their collaborative single Omo Olomo during the height of Nigeria’s #EndSARS protests. At the time, Wizkid criticized Reekado on social media for promoting the track amidst the national unrest, calling him a “fool” and a “clout animal.”

Reekado revealed that he was personally against releasing the track at the time, but his management pushed for its release. “Not the nicest, especially considering I didn’t want to put the music out. I urged my management not to, but they insisted,” he said.

When asked if he regretted the decision, the 31-year-old artist responded affirmatively, noting that the experience taught him to trust his instincts. “Absolutely. These days, there’s hardly anything I’m convinced to do that I don’t truly want to,” he said.

Reekado also shared that he and Wizkid have since reconciled. According to him, the two recently had a private conversation at Reekado’s restaurant, during which Wizkid expressed remorse over how he handled the situation. “He feels sorry about how things went down. It’s good now, no hard feelings,” Reekado said.

He further noted that Wizkid also acknowledged past comments made about producer Don Jazzy and expressed regret over his public criticism. The two artists reportedly bonded during the conversation, particularly over their shared experience of recently losing their mothers.

The exchange appears to mark a moment of resolution between the two musicians and highlights a broader narrative of growth and reconciliation within the Nigerian music community.
