Mercy Johnson Clarifies Health Rumors: “I Do Not Have Cancer”

Popular Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has publicly addressed rumors circulating about her health, firmly denying claims that she is battling cancer. The actress issued a heartfelt clarification via her social media pages, as reported by The Vanguard, after an old video clip resurfaced and sparked widespread speculation online.
The confusion stemmed from a segment of her show Mercy’s Menu, in which she discussed a past health scare. The clip, however, was taken out of context and shared without explanation, leading many to mistakenly believe she is currently dealing with a serious illness.
Mercy responded with gratitude to those who expressed concern, while assuring fans that she is in good health.
“I deeply appreciate all the love, prayers, and kind words from everyone who reached out,” she said in a video message. “But I want to be clear — I do not have cancer. The video being shared is from a much older episode where I talked about a past health scare. It has nothing to do with my present situation.”
She explained that the viral clip was edited in a way that distorted her original message, causing unnecessary alarm. While she did experience a health issue in the past, she emphasized that it has been resolved and is no longer a concern.
“The clip making the rounds was clearly taken out of context,” she clarified. “Yes, I once had a health concern, but it’s behind me now. I am healthy, strong, and actively working. There’s really no need for panic or misinformation.”
Mercy went on to explain the nature of the past issue: “They cut the clip. I said I had a cancer scare. It means that I had this swelling on my neck. If you can see the line there. And my doctor felt it was something serious. I had problems with my thyroid. I’m perfectly okay. Thank you so much for all of your calls and your messages.”
Known for being open with her fans, Mercy also used the opportunity to speak out against the spread of misinformation—particularly when it concerns sensitive topics like health. She urged the public and media outlets to confirm facts before sharing stories that may cause unwarranted fear or confusion.
