Hilda Baci Completes Guinness World Record Attempt for Largest Pot of Jollof Rice

Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has completed her Guinness World Record attempt for the largest pot of jollof rice. The event, held on Saturday at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, drew widespread attention locally and internationally.

Baci, who is from Akwa Ibom, prepared the dish using 4,000 kilograms of basmati rice, 500 cartons of tomato concentrate, 750 kilograms of cooking oil, and 600 kilograms of onions. The meal was cooked in a custom-made steel pot measuring six metres in diameter.

Initially set to use 250 bags of rice, Baci reduced the amount to 200 bags to meet Guinness World Record requirements. A team of ten assistants, dressed in red uniforms, supported her by stirring the giant pot with oversized wooden paddles.

The record attempt was part of the “Gino World Jollof Festival,” which featured music performances, DJ sets, and appearances by public figures including Ogun State First Lady Bamidele Abiodun, actress Funke Akindele, Bambam, Tomike Adeoye, Alex Unusual, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, TikTok personality Peller, and Afrobeats singer Spyro.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, commended Baci’s effort, describing it as a demonstration of Nigerian creativity and cultural excellence.

Thousands attended the event, with Baci at one point becoming emotional after receiving widespread support online.

The attempt now awaits official verification from Guinness World Records, expected in the coming weeks. If confirmed, it will mark another milestone in Baci’s career and further showcase Nigeria’s culinary heritage.
