Davido reveals why he donated another 237 million naira to charity in 2023
Superstar Davido has revealed why he decided to donate another 237 million naira to charity in 2023.
Multiple award-winning singer and performer David Adeleke OON, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he has donated a sum of 237 million naira to the less privileged in Nigeria in 2023. The singer made this announcement on his social media platform today, Thursday, July 20, 2023, in a post on his Twitter platform where he revealed that the reason for this donation which first happened on his birthday a few years ago, was because he had always looked for a way to use his platform to provide help and support for other people who need it.
His recent announcement was met with fans’ excitement as his social media post read, “I’ve always wanted to use my platform to serve others. Thankful that through your generosity, I’ve been able to do so. We recently disbursed over N200m to several orphanages in Nigeria, a tradition that started a few years ago around my birthday. Thank you to everyone who donated. With your help, we are changing lives. This is what I mean when I say We rise by lifting others. These are words in action. God bless you all!”
The gesture started off in 2021 when he requested that his friends show him support on his birthday by sending him a sum of one million naira each. His friends obliged, and the singer revealed that the sum he eventually received was 200 million, an amount he added 50 million naira to the sum before donating to charity.
In February 22, 2022, the singer released the full list of over 200 orphanage homes in Nigeria across all 36 states that had received the donation.
