Accusations of Song Plagiarism Directed at Timaya Over ‘Dey Your Dey’

Nigerian singer Timaya has been accused of Intellectual property theft.
Music group United Boys Culture has accused Timaya of song theft. The group alleged that his latest release Dey Your Dey sampled their song of the same title without authorization.
The group’s leader, speaking through a video message on their TikTok page, urged Timaya to refrain from appropriating their intellectual property. According to the Music Group leader, Timaya has done this before. The group leader cited a previous incident where he allegedly sampled their song E Dey Sweet Us, E Dey Pain Dem without consent.
The leader appealed to the singer to respect their rights and seek permission if he intends to remix their songs. Timaya has not responded to the allegations at this time. In addition to the allegations against him, the Nigerian singer opened up about his struggles with drug addiction. In a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Timaya revealed that he was introduced to drugs during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. He confessed that although he’s not perfect, he has experimented with drugs before. Timaya admitted that when he first tried the drug, it made him feel really good. He ended up giving away a lot of his money without thinking much about it.
