The new Kano is a Kano that is now evolving, we are now trying to bring everybody on board–Waiya

The Kano State Government has stated that corruption allegations against former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje remain unresolved and are unaffected by recent political developments, including Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, clarified the government’s position on Thursday while speaking on ARISE News Channel’s Prime Time programme. He said Governor Yusuf has not withdrawn any allegations against his predecessor and has no intention of interfering with ongoing judicial proceedings.

According to Waiya, the matter is currently before the courts and will be resolved through due process. He noted that the governor has deliberately stayed away from the case to avoid exerting undue influence on the judiciary.

Waiya dismissed suggestions that political realignments could offer protection from accountability, stressing that the Yusuf administration does not grant special treatment to any individual.

He said the government’s stance reflects its broader commitment to institutional reform, transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law, rather than political vendettas.

Outlining the administration’s vision, Waiya described efforts to build a more inclusive state, saying: “The new Kano is a Kano that is now evolving. We are now trying to bring everybody on board. We are trying to unite and forge ahead.”

He added that while political changes are significant, they do not alter ongoing legal scrutiny, which will continue under judicial supervision.
