Itele d Icon Reflects on Early Relationship and Support from Actress Kemi Ariyo

Popular Nollywood actor Ibrahim Yekini, widely known as Itele d Icon, has spoken about his long-standing relationship with actress Kemi Ariyo, also known as Aunty Sidi, highlighting her support during the early years of his career.

Speaking in an interview on the official YouTube channel of Oyinmomo TV, the actor disclosed that Kemi Ariyo was his first student in his theatre group and remained under his mentorship for eight years.

Itele d Icon said Ariyo stood by him during a period of financial hardship, providing both emotional and financial support. He explained that she regularly assisted him with money whenever he needed to attend public events.

“Kemi was my first student in my theatre group because she was the person to apply as a student that time,” he said. “I trained Kemi for eight years before she got her freedom, but right now my students don’t spend more than two years before they graduate.”

He further stated: “Kemi stayed with me when I had no money, she loved me and was very submissive to me.”

According to him, Ariyo would often give him ₦20,000 to cover expenses at public engagements, a gesture he said continued for several years.

The actor also noted changes in his theatre group over time, explaining that students now complete their training in about two years. He described Ariyo’s eight-year training period as a reflection of dedication and commitment during the early phase of his career.
