Abike Dabiri Shares Buhari’s Response to Rumors of Death and Cloning
Abuja — Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has shared a past video of former President Muhammadu Buhari addressing widespread rumors that he had died and been replaced by a double.
The video, posted on Dabiri-Erewa’s official X account on Friday, July 18, resurfaced following Buhari’s funeral earlier in the week in Daura, Katsina State.
In the footage, recorded during a presidential town hall meeting while Buhari was still in office, the late president directly responded to the rumors, clarifying that he had only traveled abroad for medical treatment.
“When I was away on medical vacation last year, a lot of people hoped I was dead. Yemi Osinbajo even had to deal with the rumours,” Buhari said.
He explained that the false reports gained traction during his absence, with some individuals even lobbying for his then-Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, assuming Buhari had died.
Following the video’s repost, Dabiri-Erewa added a brief message, praying for the peaceful repose of the late president’s soul.
