Sanwo-Olu Criticizes Peter Obi’s Record, Questions His Right to Attack Nigeria’s Policies

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has taken a swipe at Peter Obi, questioning his achievements as former governor of Anambra State and challenging his criticism of Nigeria’s economic policies during his recent overseas engagements.

Speaking on Obi’s time in office, Sanwo-Olu remarked, “I find it somewhat ironic that a man like Mr Obi, who did not build a single school or a stand-alone hospital throughout his eight-year tenure as Governor of Anambra… would criticise the Government of Nigeria, which is actively doing that.”

The Lagos State governor went further to defend President Bola Tinubu’s legacy, highlighting Tinubu’s efforts in Lagos, where he built over 200 schools and supported more than 200,000 undergraduates with student loans.

Sanwo-Olu also argued that prominent Nigerians, like Obi, have a responsibility to promote a positive image of the country when abroad. “When prominent Nigerians go overseas, they ought to project Nigeria positively,” he insisted.

Describing Obi’s actions as “disturbing,” Sanwo-Olu warned that public criticism should not cross into territory that harms the national interest, even when directed at the government.

He concluded by questioning Obi’s credibility as a critic, pointing to the economic and social challenges Anambra faced during Obi’s administration. According to Sanwo-Olu, Obi’s governance record does not lend him the moral standing to criticize the current government.

Sanwo-Olu’s remarks have further deepened the ongoing political tensions between supporters of Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi, two major players in Nigeria’s political scene.
