“No True Muslim Denies Jesus” – Naira Marley’s Remark Sparks Religious Debate
Popular Nigerian singer and Marlian Records boss, Abdulazeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley, has set social media abuzz with a bold statement about Jesus and Islam. His remarks, shared on X (formerly Twitter), have ignited discussions among both Christians and Muslims.
Naira Marley, a practicing Muslim, asserted that belief in Jesus is an essential aspect of Islam. He stated that any Muslim who does not acknowledge Jesus is not a true Muslim. His post quickly gained traction, drawing mixed reactions from various religious communities.
In Islamic teachings, Jesus—referred to as Isa in Arabic—is recognized as a prophet and messenger of God. Muslims believe in his miraculous birth, his ability to perform divine miracles, and his eventual return before the end of time. However, unlike Christian beliefs, Islam does not regard Jesus as divine or as the Son of God.
Following Naira Marley’s statement, social media users engaged in intense debates. Some Muslims supported his claim, emphasizing that belief in Jesus as a prophet is fundamental in Islam. Others questioned his interpretation, leading to discussions on theological nuances. Christian users also participated, reaffirming their belief in Jesus as the Son of God and highlighting the distinctions between Christian and Islamic teachings.
Religious debates sparked by public figures are not uncommon, often drawing passionate responses. While Naira Marley’s statement has stirred controversy, it has also led to meaningful conversations about the commonalities and differences between Christianity and Islam regarding Jesus.
Despite the varying opinions, the discussion has shed light on the significance of interfaith dialogue and the shared aspects of both religions.
