Obasa Presides Over Lagos Assembly Plenary with Four Lawmakers
Impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, returned to the legislative chamber on Thursday, presiding over a plenary session weeks after his removal.
It was reports that Obasa’s security details were reinstated, while those of Speaker Mojisola Meranda were withdrawn, signaling a potential reinstatement. His return was marked by what supporters described as a “triumphant” re-entry following his impeachment by 36 lawmakers on January 13, which he has challenged in court as illegal.
At Thursday’s plenary, only four lawmakers were in attendance:
- Hon. Nuraini Akinsanya
- Hon. Yinka Eso
- Hon. Jubreel Kareem
- Hon. Noheem Adams
Addressing the Assembly, Obasa reaffirmed the importance of the legislative arm in upholding democracy and defended his position, stating, “I’ve never been removed. Impeachment or removal is democratic and constitutional, but in doing that, you must follow due process. I am not against that. If I do that, then I am not democratic.”
