“I Went To My Mother First When They Asked Me To Play A Stripper” – Lolade Okusanya

Nollywood actress Lolade Okusanya recently opened up about a challenging role early in her career during an interview on Seun Oloketuyi’s YouTube channel. She revealed that she was asked to play a dancer who had to expose her body on screen, a request that made her seek her mother’s advice before accepting the role.
Recalling the moment, Okusanya said, “When I was told that I was going to play a particular role in a movie, I went to my mother and I presented it to her.” At the time, she was not yet a well-known actress, and her mother didn’t fully understand the nature of the role.
When her mother realized the character required her daughter to act as a stripper, she expressed her concerns, calling the role “too weird.” Despite her mother’s reservations, Okusanya saw it as an opportunity to prove her versatility as an actress.
Determined to take on the challenge without compromising her family’s reputation, she made a promise to her mother. “I told her that it was an opportunity for me to showcase my talent, and I promised her that I would not embarrass my family,” Okusanya shared.
Her story highlights the tough choices actors often face when navigating unconventional or controversial roles early in their careers.
