Alex Ikwechegh Issues Apology After Slapping Bolt Driver, Commits to Cooperating with Police Investigation

House of Representatives member Alex Ikwechegh has publicly apologized for slapping a Bolt driver who was delivering a package to him. The incident, captured in a viral video, showed Ikwechegh angrily slapping and insulting the driver, prompting backlash and criticism.
In a statement released on Monday, Ikwechegh admitted that his actions were inappropriate and below the standard expected of a public official. He expressed regret for causing harm and embarrassment to the driver, his constituents, and the country. He confirmed his cooperation with the Nigerian Police and pledged to support their investigation into the matter.
Ikwechegh emphasized his commitment to accountability and shared his plans to seek professional counseling to prevent future incidents. Additionally, he intends to participate in community service programs that promote respect and understanding.
The confrontation, which led to public outrage, resulted in the police summoning Ikwechegh for questioning, especially after he allegedly threatened the driver and mentioned the Inspector General of Police during the altercation. Ikwechegh urged Nigerians to embrace a culture of respect and dignity for all.
